DANZ Awarded Diversity Award from Human Rights Commission

We are very excited to let you know that a group of us went to Hamilton on 22nd August 2011 to receive a special award that Deaf Aotearoa was given by the Human Rights Commission.Race Relations

Each year the Human Rights Commission award a selection (12) organisations/businesses in NZ who show commitment and passion for diversity.

Here is what the HRC said about us:

Deaf Aotearoa NZ was selected by the Race Relations Commissioner and his advisors from current diversity action programme participants because of the range of activities undertaken to promote wider understanding in the community of deaf culture and the use of NZ Sign including :

  • NZ Sign Language Week,
  • the tri-lingual national anthem,
  • on-line dictionary,
  • general advocacy.

This Award recognises the hard work ALL of us have put in to Awareness, Access and Advancement of NZSL and the Deaf Community.

Well done to everyone! Keep going strong – our work is being recognised.
